Keep in mind, there are many other factors to consider beyond just comparing price. In fact, choosing based solely on price could lead to a less-than-optimal experience.

Make sure that you do your research and inquire about expertise, integrity and reputation. Ask to speak with previous customers and see the quality of their work first-hand. Ask questions about the things that are important to you such as communication and response times.

Often times, lower quotes can include inferior materials and hidden costs that can end up costing you more time and money in the long run. Make sure the contractor is experienced, skilled and has the expertise required to do the job.

Whenever possible, it is wise to get your contractor involved in the design process up front to ensure the scope of your project is within your budget. When a contractor is not involved, and the project is sent out to bid, often times the homeowner finds out it is beyond their budget, which is both disappointing and requires a redesign resulting in additional costs and delays.
